Paul Lewzey MSc Gerontology
The content of the modules has been a delight. They have included some areas, such as Demography, that I knew very little about before the course. Learning in completely new areas has been a real pleasure.
Why did you choose to carry out your postgraduate study at Southampton?
The University’s Gerontology Department offered just the kind of course that I was interested in at a time in my life when I wanted to complete a Master’s degree.
What is the academic support that you have received like?
My personal tutor was enormously supportive, which helped a lot throughout the time that I studied. Her knowledge and experience helped me to get the best out of the course. Academic staff teaching each of the modules were wonderfully expert in their fields and always willing to spend time on questions. My dissertation tutor helped me to stretch myself during the different phases of research and write up. She was helpfully business-like and always willing to spend the time that I needed discussing the project.
What are you enjoying most about your course?
The content of the modules has been a delight. They have included some areas, such as Demography, that I knew very little about before the course. Learning in completely new areas has been a real pleasure.
What are you hoping to do after you complete your postgraduate study?
Now that I have completed my MSc I have been accepted on a PhD course that I started in late 2017. My learning and research will be useful in formulating suggestions for changes in health, social care and human rights policy for my political party.
