We work with local and national governments and organisations across the world, exploring political theory, social policy, equality, justice and citizenship. Our teaching is informed by our research findings, which means our students benefit from the latest thinking.

We have an international reputation for research on the major challenges of society. Our academics use the latest data science and artificial intelligence to answer questions about crime, democratic governance, behavioural economics and population change. Social scientists at Southampton collaborate on interdisciplinary projects across our 5 departments, and each is a centre of excellence for research, teaching and learning.
