Monica is a PhD student in Neuroimmunology at the University of Southampton.

She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain in 2016. In 2017 she completed her MSc degree in Clinical Neuroscience with distinction at Roehampton University, London. Now she has join DGN lab to study the role of early-life inflammation on the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease.

Academic Qualifications:

Oct 2017–present: PhD in University of Southampton, UK.

Research interests

In 2014 while I was an undergraduate student I did an internship and participate in the project “The role of the proteolysis in experimental models with neurodegenerative diseases -Neuro-protective strategies” in the Hospital Ramon y Cajal (Madrid).

Later, in 2015 I went back to the Hospital Ramon y Cajal (Madrid) to do my bachelor thesis “The neuroimmunomodulator role of the trehalose in the Alzheimer Disease”

Also, in 2016 I performed my MSc thesis “Examine the effects of the endocannabinoid system and immune system on the proliferation of neural stem cells exposed to valproic acid”. This project was done in collaboration with National University of Ireland Galway. I received a scholarship from the Royal Society of London which allowed me to go to NUIG university and do part of the research there.
