Professor Qiang  Zhao 

Visiting Professor in Navigation Technology

Professor Qiang Zhao is a Visiting Professor from Jimei University in China. He has over 25 years of experience in research and teaching in Ship Navigation Technology. He was the Member of China Institute of Navigation, and the Expert of Navigation safety assessment of China MSA (Maritime Safety Administration of the People’s of China).

His main research focuses on Maritime Transportation Planning and Risk Management, including evaluating ship trajectory using the AIS big data, and judging the impact of complex risks in a dynamic sea environment, and giving the professional guidelines for ship’s routing planning in the given water, including the Arctic and Antarctic Ocean.

In the past ten years he has kept a strong interest in Transportation Safety and Environmental Engineering, specifically including: offshore operation safety, including navigation safety assessment in offshore rigs and working vessels operating water, offshore development of oil and gas operation risk assessment, offshore supporting vessel navigation and operation technique.

Now he has established good cooperative relationships in both government organizations (e.g., MSA, Authorities of port) and commercial companies (e.g., CNOOC, CSOL, Seadrill, Chevron, COSCO SHIPPING), and fulfilled a range of research projects and technical services.
