Southampton audiology lecturer receives prestigious international award

The BSA (www.thebsa.org.uk), which is the largest audiology society in Europe, awarded the prize to Dr Rowan in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting excellence in clinical practice as Chair of the Professional Practice Committee.

Dr Rowan said: "I am delighted and honored to have received this trophy. Dr Denzil Brooks was a pioneer of audiology. His innovative, psycho-social approach to rehabilitation, 20 years ahead of its time, inspired me to take the lead on the Committee's crucial work. In particular, to develop clinical guidance establishing the principles underpinning modern rehabilitation in audiology practice."

The BSA principles of rehabilitation are having substantial impact on audiology practice. Barry Downes, President of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists, said: "We have greatly welcomed the publication of the BSA principles of rehabilitation and wish to thank Dr Rowan and the BSA Professional Practice Committee for undertaking this considerable task. The BSA principles are proving invaluable in the development of our standards for best practice in adult auditory rehabilitation for independent sector hearing care professionals."

Dr Rowan added: "I wouldn't have been able to do this without the tremendous efforts of members of the Professional Practice Committee past and present."
