The science of today is the technology of tomorrow. - Edward Teller

Alessandro is an open minded, dynamic and highly motivated scientist with a broad background in cell biology and in vitro research. He is a visiting PhD student from Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia/Università di Genoa, Italy, working on his PhD project in collaboration and under the supervision of Dr. Dario Carugo and Dr. Katrin Deinhardt . Since he started in 2014 his PhD in Neuroscience and Neurotechnology under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Difato , he has been involved in several projects, earning experience with the most common in-vitro techniques in use in neurobiology research. Today, he works closely with biomedical engineers and biotechnologists and this incredible stimulating work environment is allowing him to acquire everyday new competencies, increasing his natural attitude in problem solving. He is always, enthusiastically, looking in exploring the next generation of bio-nanotechnology suitable for neuroscience research.

Research interests

Alessandro is using his expertise in neuron cell biology in (1) developing a new molecular tool for studying neurostimulation and, (2) investigating of how mechanical perturbations of the environment could influence the electrophysiological activity of neurons within the neuronal network.

Primary Project:

Modulation of Neuronal Network Activity

Side Projects:

• Study of 3D neuronal network dynamics

• Development of a microfluidic device for the production of cellurized-alginate droplets
