Postgraduate research courses

Would you like to work with our internationally respected academics on significant, challenging and exciting projects in engineering and audiology? Our research has been judged the most “powerful” for general engineering in the UK (Research Excellence Framework 2014). We offer several postgraduate research degrees and many funded places are available.

Studying for a PhD

Our specialist research themes link with the Graduate School to offer students an excellent research environment, high quality projects and key skills.

Centres for Doctoral Training

Opportunities for funded PhD study exist at our three world-class CDTs. They are examining many of the key engineering issues facing society today.

Energy storage and its applications. Understanding the technologies behind energy storage is crucial to a global low carbon economy. Funded PhD places are available.

Next generation computational modelling. Computer simulations connect theory and experiment and encourage innovation across engineering and science. Funded student PhD places are available.

Sustainable infrastructure systems. Improving global infrastructure is key to economic growth, security, sustainability and wellbeing. Funded PhD student places are available.

Studying for an EngD

Combine top level academic study with real-life experience putting knowledge into practice at a leading company or organisation.

Studying for an MRes

Take a one-year MRes course to specialise in a topic and develop your skills for further research or a career in industry.

Current funded projects

Many opportunities exist for exciting and challenging funded projects across all areas of Engineering and Audiology.

Potential projects
