GOAL is a collaborative study funded within the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme. Its aim is to develop guidelines for the exploitation and use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to help older people stay mobile through various forms of public/private transport and new transport systems.
The aim of the GOAL project is to develop an action plan for innovative solutions to fulfill the transport needs of an ageing society. This is being based on the development of different profiles of older people representing their range of physical and mental characteristics. These profiles are now being used for a structured exploration of user needs while driving, using public transport and walking/cycling, together with the transport information needed before and during travel. The action plan will also include a specification of the further research necessary to develop the innovative solutions proposed.
