Title: Hollywood interventions into American foreign policy

My doctoral research explores Hollywood’s representation of American national identity, trauma and the other in relation to recent U.S. foreign policy. Hollywood films are often criticised for their unequivocal support of American foreign policy and distorting of characters to create good v evil narratives. My analysis focuses on the interventions into international relations of nine films directed by Peter Berg, Kathryn Bigelow, Clint Eastwood and Paul Greengrass released between 2007 and 2018, including Lone Survivor, The Hurt Locker, American Sniper and Green Zone.
