Law School annual Ganz lecture debates controversial Parole Board decisions

Published: 26 April 2018

Professor Nick Hardwick gave the annual CLPS Ganz lecture on 25 April, exploring the challenges faced by the Parole Board for England and Wales.

This timely lecture came in the wake of the recent judicial review of the Parole Board's decision to release prolific sex offender John Worboys. Professor Hardwick, who until last month was Chair of the Parole Board, argued that the Board must gain true independence and achieve greater transparency in its processes and decisions.
Dr Harry Annison, co-director of CLPS (Centre for Law, Policy and Society at Southampton Law School) said, "We were delighted to welcome Professor Hardwick to Southampton Law School to speak about these important issues, and for the lively debate that followed amongst an audience of practitioners, policymakers, students, researchers and academic staff."
