Law, Policy and Society workshop focuses on 'Vulnerability and the Law'

The second annual CLPS workshop was organised around the theme of 'Vulnerability and the Law'.

Featuring speakers from Southampton Law School and beyond, papers addressed wide ranging issues from human trafficking to education, from housing to the International Criminal Court, from equality law to community safety.

Papers included:

Ainhoa Campàs Velasco - Vulnerability at sea: a more integrating construction of 'distress' in search and rescue to respond to the needs of migrants at sea?
Ana Fuentes Cano - The "Rescue" of victims of trafficking in Hampshire, England – the extent in compliance to a victim-centred approach of the UK National Referral Mechanism
Joan Mahoney - Transgender Teenagers and Secondary Education
Emma Laurie - Vulnerability as a rationing device in access to housing
Francesca Menichelli - How Does Vulnerability Work? The emergence of vulnerability in community safety in England and Wales
Regina E Rauxloh - Justice or hospitals? Questioning the Trust Fund for Victims for the International Criminal Court
Alice Harrison - Vulnerability and the Law
Katie Hunt (Southampton) and Sotirios Santatzoglou (Keele University) - Dietschmann, Bereavement and the Process of Justice

Professor Brenda Hannigan, Head of Southampton Law School, said, "This workshop was a wonderful illustration of the high quality research being undertaken by Southampton Law School academics. Each panel provided thought-provoking theoretical argumentation, proposed policy responses and prompted lively debate. I look forward to seeing these projects and collaborations develop further in the coming months."
