JUSTICE launched its latest report, 'A Parole System Fit for Purpose' on 20 January 2022.

Published: 25 January 2022

Dr Harry Annison, Associate Professor at Southampton Law School, is a member and sub-group chair, of the Working Party that has developed the report, with underlying work having taken place from April 2021.

This report examines the role, powers, and procedures of the Parole Board and the broader parole system of England and Wales. The report places particular focus on groups overrepresented throughout the criminal justice system and those who face particular challenges in participating in the parole process. It presents practical recommendations which explore and show how the parole system could be truly fit for purpose for those in prison, victims, and the general public. We hope it will help inform the Government's own 'root and branch' review and its recommendations for reform.
