The initial transition into Higher Education can be tough to navigate, academically and socially. Students are in a brand new learning environment, with new responsibilities and new ways of teaching and learning to adjust to.
In order to provide some insight into how to tackle these first few weeks and months at university, the talk below by Dr Emma Thompson outlines some key information for students prior to beginning their studies, including different methods of teaching, learning and assessment, academic reading, note-taking and referencing.
This talk is complemented by useful downloads at the bottom of this page that go into more detail about lectures and seminars, and identifying learning styles. The skills focused on here can be put into practice when engaging with the rest of this lecture package.
