Jasmine Quinney, currently studying for a BSc in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics at the University of Southampton has just been awarded a prestigious scholarship by the UK Operational Research Society. Jasmine fought off competition from across the UK to win one of just three scholarships. The £10k scholarship will allow Jasmine to continue her studies here at Southampton by progressing to the MSc Operational Research.

Jasmine says, “I am so happy to receive this prestigious scholarship as it will enable me to pursue my passion for OR through further study. The programme at the University of Southampton looks great and I feel I will really benefit from further study here and the opportunity to complete a summer project. I'm excited to be an ambassador for the OR Society at my university and to increase awareness among other students.”

The MSc in Operational Research at the University of Southampton attracts students from across the world because of the expertise of the research staff within the group and the close links that the university has with business and public services. Students on the MSc programme have the opportunity to work with an external organisation during their three month summer project and this year our students are carrying out projects with Airbus, Carnival UK, several local hospital trusts and Deloitte Analytics to name but a few. Spending three months working on a real problem is a highlight of the MSc programme.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the MSc programmes that we offer in Mathematical Sciences can find out more here. For those interested in our degrees and careers in Operational Research and Management Science, CORMSIS are holding an Analytical Recruitment and Networking Event on 6 November where students can find out more.
