Senior Lecturer Laurie Stras has won two prestigious awards, both announced in October 2008.

As co-directors of Musica Secreta, she and Deborah Roberts have been presented with the award for the Best Arts and Media Project 2007 by the Society for the study of Early Modern Women, for their CD, Alessandro Grandi: Motetti a cinque voci (1614). She has also been honoured in the 2008 ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards for her article, "White Face, Black Voice: Race, Gender, and Region in the Music of Boswell Sisters," published in the Journal of the Society for American Music. Laurie will be presented with her award at a ceremony in December, held at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in New York City.
