New Shows by Southampton Composer

Published: 30 April 2015
Andrew Fisher

This month sees performances of two new shows by Southampton's Head of Commercial Composition, Dr Andrew Fisher. Billy Bow will figure in the Leicester Curve Theatre Inside Out festival on 5-6 May.

The show is inspired by a true, if tangled, tale from the Napoleonic War, about young, black English woman named Mina. Desperate to escape her murderous husband and captivated by her late father’s stories of the sea, Mina disguises herself as a man, Billy Bow, and joins the wartime British Navy. Extracts from Girl in a Crisis, a one-woman show loosely based on the Don Giovanni story, will feature at the Clapham Omnibus on 8-9 May.

Dr Fisher's music will be heard all over the country between the two. The BBC General Election Programme is again using the theme music composed by Richard Blair Oliphant for the 2010 election, and orchestrated and arranged by Fisher.
