The American National Endowment for the Humanities has announced its most recent round of grants. The Works of Giuseppe Verdi, for which Prof Francesco Izzo (Music) serves as General Editor, has been awarded USD 203k in outright funding for the 2019-2022 cycle.

The Works of Giuseppe Verdi is co-published by The University of Chicago Press and Casa Ricordi. It is a project that aims to publish all of Verdi's music in authoritative critical editions, serving the needs of scholars and performers alike. Izzo has been serving as General Editor for the series since 2014. In that capacity and as Project Director for the NEH grant, in the coming years he will be supervising the publication of Un giorno di regno, Le trouvère, and a volume of early compositions, to be followed by Un ballo in maschera and La forza del destino. In the meantime, work is underway on editions of I lombardi alla prima crociata, Otello, and Falstaff. Editions in this series are widely used for performances and recordings by leading companies and festivals around the world, including the Royal Opera, the Welsh National Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Festival Verdi in Parma, and Milan's Teatro alla Scala.
