Strychnine

Strychnine

The 1D NMR spectra of the alkaloid poison strychnine are relatively complicated with several areas of overlapping signals. The molecule is often used as a standard to test advanced 2D NMR experiments.

HH COSY. The HH COSY spectrum shows the proton coupling network within the molecule.
HMQC. In the HMQC spectrum the one-bond direct HC couplings can be viewed as cross-peaks between the proton and carbon projections.
HMBC. In the HMBC spectrum the two- and three- bond couplings between protons and carbons can be seen as cross-peaks.
