Dancing with Parkinson’s Disease

Dance centre

Dance lessons are provided by a local dance centre.

Dance lessons

Each lesson will take place in a local dance school studio, led by a professional dance teacher and supported by a research assistant with experience of PD.

Each dance series will consist of one hour sessions twice a week for 10 weeks

Each session will start with a warm up. New steps will be introduced and practiced and a record of the session will be kept. Proposed dances include the social foxtrot, the waltz, the cha cha and the Argentine tango.

Emphasis will be placed on encouraging individuals to extend their posture, turn their head and trunk, heel strike and toe push off

Tailored to individual capabilities and participants will be encouraged to practice the safe components of the dance between classes and to continue beyond the programme.
