Public Policy|Southampton

Embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in your policy impact

Date and time: 11 June 2024, Tuesday, 11:00-13:00

Location: B100 / 7011  (Centenary building), in person only

Event details:

This session will facilitate your thinking around how to include principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion when engaging your research with public policy. A very brief overview of what policy engagement will be provided, but you are encouraged to look at Public Policy | Southampton resources and blogs beforehand. This session will include a mix of academic and professional frameworks that centre relational, plural approaches to knowledge brokerage and EDI, and will also be supported by a recent study conducted by the presenter and their colleague on EDI Strategies within academic-policy engagement. This session will not be about how to include EDI within your research design, and you can be at any point of the academic-policy engagement journey, including being a complete newbie to a seasoned contributor.

This session will take place in person in 04 / 4003 (Law building) and will not be online, due to the interactive elements of the session. The presenter may deliver additional, complementary training online at a later date.

Speakers bio:

Laura Bea is current Network Manager for the Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) and current University of Southampton PhD Student, and previous PPS Specialist Policy Officer (EDI).

Dr Alejandra Recio Saucedo is Senior Research Fellow based at the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC).
