Study opportunities

SCECS offers a Masters programme in Eighteenth-Century Studies and has an increasing number of MPhil/PhD students undertaking a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.

For Masters level work, students should normally have a very good 2.1 degree in a humanities discipline and an interest in exploring the history, ideas and culture of the long eighteenth century (1660-1820).

We normally expect our Phil/PhD students to have a Master's degree in an appropriate subject, but we can also accommodate students who have relevant practical, archival or museum experience. We welcome students from any humanities discipline and are particularly interested in hearing from those who wish to pursue interdisciplinary project and/or projects that draw on the library holdings at the University of Southampton and Chawton House Library.
