The Southampton Diffraction Centre

Services

The following options are available for small molecule single crystal diffraction:

Departmental Service

This service offers two options: full structure determination and data collection.

All samples should be accompanied by a completed sample submission form (can be obtained from here) and placed in the box labelled "Samples to be logged in" located on the shelf in the X-Ray preparation room (30:1031).

If unsure about the suitability of the crystals please get them checked by either Mark (contact person) or one of the NCS team before submitting the sample.

Open Access Service

This service is available for users who wish to run their own samples and become self-sufficient in crystal structure determination. Ideally suited for users who produce more than a couple of single crystals a year, this mode of operation generally ensures quicker results and is more cost effective. However, several training sessions are required, which should be arranged with Mark Light (contact under Access).

Extra support is available in the form of "X-Ray help sessions" run by Mark Light on Tuesday afternoons (please book a slot).

Costing

The running of the instrumentation falls under the full economic costing (FEC) for small research facilities (SRF) model of the university. Further information about SRF FEC can be found here.
