Turing @ Southampton

About Us

The University of Southampton became a Turing University Partner in 2018. In 2023 the Turing launched the Turing University Network of which Southampton became a member, providing us with opportunities to engage and collaborate both with the Institute and it's broader networks.

The international expertise of Southampton in AI and data science allows the University to undertake research that tackles some of the biggest challenges in science, society and the economy – applying this research to real-world problems and helping to make the UK the best place in the world for data science, AI research, collaboration and business.

Southampton currently has 35 Turing Fellows who contribute to new ideas, drive collaborative projects, secure external funding and provide research expertise and a Turing@Southampton Early Career Research (ECR) community who run regular networking events. We have 13 Turing-sponsored Pilot Projects underway, these projects are an opportunity for academics to develop new research ideas aligned with the Turing priorities.

All of the University’s Turing-related activities are coordinated by Southampton’s Web Science Institute. These include running engagement activities and administering fellowships, projects and cohort activities.

We are a pioneering world-leader in computer, data and web science and as a university partner of The Alan Turing Institute we seek to further expand our capabilities in harmony with other world-leaders in these fields.
