Professor Joanne Roberts

Dr Joanne Roberts is Professor of Arts and Cultural Management at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, United Kingdom. She is Director of the Winchester Luxury Research Group and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption (Taylor & Francis). Joanne has published widely in leading international academic journals including Journal of Management Studies , Journal of Business Ethics , Management Learning , and Research Policy . She is currently co-editing The Third Realm of Luxury: Connecting Real Places and Imaginary Spaces with John Armitage (Bloomsbury, forthcoming) and The Oxford Handbook of Luxury Business with Pierre-Yves Donzé and Véronique Pouillard (Oxford University Press, forthcoming). Joanne is also co-editor with John Armitage of Critical Luxury Studies: Art, Design, Media (Edinburgh University Press, 2016) and The Spirit of Luxury , a special issue of the journal Cultural Politics (Duke University Press, 2016). Joanne’s research focuses on the role of knowledge and ignorance in the field of luxury, including how knowledge and ignorance shape the production, promotion and consumption of luxury goods and services.

Professor John Armitage

Dr John Armitage is Professor of Media Arts at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He is co-director of the Winchester Luxury Research Group and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption (Taylor & Francis). John is currently writing Luxury and Visual Culture (Bloomsbury, forthcoming) and co-editing The Third Realm of Luxury: Connecting Real Places and Imaginary Spaces with Joanne Roberts (Bloomsbury, forthcoming). He is also co-editor with Joanne Roberts of Critical Luxury Studies: Art, Design, Media (Edinburgh University Press, 2016) and The Spirit of Luxury , a special issue of the journal Cultural Politics (Duke University Press, 2016). John’s main research interests are in luxury and visual culture inclusive of luxury fashion, contemporary art, photography, cinema, television, and social media. He has published over one hundred journal articles and book chapters, many of which have been translated into languages such as Dutch and German, Korean, Mandarin, and Spanish.

Dr Jonathan Faiers is Professor of Fashion Thinking at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He is co-director of the Winchester Luxury Research Group and is the founder and co-editor of the journal Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption (Taylor & Francis). Jonathan is currently writing and researching Fur: A Controversial History (Yale University Press forthcoming). Other current and recent projects include: co-editor with Mary Westerman Bulgarella of Colors in Fashion (Bloomsbury 2017) contributions to Expedition: Fashion From the Extreme (Thames & Hudson 2017), Alexander McQueen (V&A Publishing 2015) London Couture 1923-1975: British Luxury (V&A Publishing 2015) Luxury and Crime: Theories, Media, Practices (Routledge, forthcoming), and The Blackwell Companion to Contemporary Design (Since 1945) (Wiley, forthcoming). Jonathan’s main research interests focus on the interface between luxury, fashion, textiles and popular culture. He lectures and publishes internationally on textiles and dress, was a member of the curatorial advisory panel for the international exhibition What is Luxury? (Victoria & Albert Museum 2015) and is a member of the advisory committee for the Costume Colloquium, Florence.

Dr Yasmin Sekhon Dhillon

Dr Yasmin Sekhon is an Associate Professor in Luxury Marketing at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, United Kingdom.  She is co-director of the Winchester Luxury Research Group. She gained her doctorate at the University of Birmingham investigating consumption choices in a cross-cultural context. Yasmin is currently co-editing Luxury and the Senses: Past Present and Future with Jo Norman (Bloomsbury, forthcoming).  Most recently Yasmin and Professor Joanne Roberts were awarded an ESRC Impact Acceleration Award to disseminate their research findings to local and international schools on possessions, luxury and well being amongst children. Initially funded by the University of Southampton’s Adventures in Research scheme, Yasmin explored the moral and ethical dilemmas faced by children in making luxury consumption and brand choices as well as investigating the consumption journey of children.  Yasmin continues to publish in a number of academic journals from Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption to Consumption, Markets and Culture Journal .  She is also on the editorial board of the International Journal of Market Research . Yasmin enjoys researching luxury brand consumption, children and luxury, materialism as well as cross-cultural luxury consumption. She has been invited to give talks at a number of universities both nationally and internationally, as well as present her research at international conferences.
