Lucy Worsley’s ‘The First Georgians’ on BBC4

Published: 12 June 2014

Economics lecturer talks to Lucy Worsley as part of new BBC4 series ‘The First Georgians’.

George I became king of England (and the rest of the United Kingdom) in 1714. It is three hundred years since the new Hanoverian dynasty arrived in Britain. In the first episode of the series ‘The First Georgians’, Lucy Worsley discusses George I’s reign. She talks to Dr Helen Paul, lecturer in Economics and Economic History at the University of Southampton, about a major economic crisis of the period. The South Sea Bubble of 1720 was an early example of a financial bubble.
