New project to explore inquiry skills

Published: 3 May 2013

Southampton Education School has secured funding from the AstraZeneca Science Teaching Trust to run a primary science research project.

Entitled Developing Inquiry Skills Across the Curriculum: ‎a project with the Mary Rose Trust, the University of Southampton is collaborating with ‎‏primary and junior schools in ‎Southampton and The Mary Rose Trust in Portsmouth.

The project aims to enable teachers to explore generic inquiry ‎approaches and map their findings ‎to the new primary ‎curriculum; it will ‎support the identification and development of cross-curricular inquiry ‎‏skills, as well as developing approaches ‎and practices to support science enquiry through consolidation across a range ‎of curriculum areas.‎

Teachers from the schools involved will work with researchers from the University, including Dr Marcus Grace, Dr Janice Griffiths, Colin Stevens and with the Education Team at the ‎Mary Rose Trust, facilitated by colleagues from the Mathematics and Science ‎Learning Centre. ‎

The project will run from June 2013 to October 2014.
