Post-ITT Subject Knowledge Enhancement in Physics and Chemistry (Maths and Computing)

Published: 16 September 2014

Places still available in chemistry, physics and computing. Are you a qualified teacher, teaching chemistry or physics without a ‎specialism? Research clearly shows that teachers with subject ‎specialism training are more effective in teaching that subject at ‎secondary level.

The Mathematics and Science Learning Centre, University of Southampton is delighted to be working with Ringwood School and the SPELL Teaching School Alliance ‎‎(Southern Partnership for Excellence in Leadership Learning) and Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance to co-deliver the Post-ITT Subject Knowledge Enhancement Programme (SKE) in physics and chemistry. We have developed an innovative programme involving face-to-face training, online provision by webinars, coaching and mentoring through subject specialist colleagues in schools, impact evaluation and a research poster-based dissemination event.

Our post-ITT SKE will complement your timetable in school.  There will be opportunities to practice techniques in the classroom and to network with, and learn from, other practising teachers.  In addition, participants will work with subject specialist mentors in school to extend and develop practice and collect evidence of impact.

All tutors have extensive teaching experience and are expert in teaching across a range of programmes including SKE, RSC and IoP CPD programmes, Science Learning Centre provision and more. Sessions will be differentiated to cover a range of participant levels and participants will use subject knowledge audits and action planning to support learning. Participants will be expected to work with a local subject specialist mentor and to collect evidence of impact of the programme in the classroom.

The programme will start in October 2014 and is shown in draft form below.
