Event details

Education seminar, hosted by the Centre for Research in Inclusion (CRI)

With the advent of social media, social networks occupy increasingly central roles in Higher Education strategies for student engagement, events and communication. However, new tools evoke new socio-technical power-relations; some networking tools are more accessible and inclusive than others. In this seminar, discussion will focus on Twitter and its capacity to enhance and communicate academic activities in an ethical and inclusive way.

Dr Sarah Lewthwaite (@slewth) joined Twitter in 2008 and examined its use during her PhD research into student experiences of social networks and disability.

In this interactive seminar, Sarah will share a behind the scenes look at what she has learned from her research and networks, and how this social media involvement has led to further opportunities for research, teaching and learning. The session will take a fresh look at how twitter networks can be created and purposed for inclusive academic work to engage new audiences and participants, and amplify the relevance and impact of our work. ‘Beginners’ are welcome.

Please note, places for this session are limited. To reserve a place, please contact the organisers in advance.
