Event details

The Centre for Eastern European and Eurasian Studies invites all Sotonians to an event entitled 'War, Displacement, and Migration in Eastern Europe and Eurasia’ which will be held on Friday 26th of April 2024, from 1.30 - 5.30pm. This series of talks will be an opportunity to learn about the effects contemporary conflicts in Eastern Europe, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border have on local populations.

Professor Jane Falkingham will open the day while Professor David Owen will offer closing remarks.

During the event we will have a chance to listen to Professor Jasmine Dum-Tragut (University of Salzburg) talking about the expulsion from Artsakh (also know as Nagorno-Karabakh) of the indigenous Armenian population and its impact on Armenia; to Dr Sam Knapton (University of Nottingham) offering new insights into the queer dimensions of displacement after the Word War II and to Dr Alun Thomas (Staffordshire University) historicising the recent clashes on Tajik-Kyrgyz border.

The event will end with a Q&A session and a chance to network over tea and coffee.
