Breaking Boundaries Conference

We strive to embed innovation and enterprise in both the research and education agendas in the Faculty of Medicine (FoM) as well as the Medicine, Health and Life Sciences (MHLS) Faculty to provide a continuous  transferable skills and professional development programme rolled out across the post-graduate and post-doctoral FoM and MHLS Faculty community.

As a result we developed a series of inspirational, informative and creative conferences, workshops and training days within the Faculty of Medicine which were also open to all within the Faculty of MHLS.

The aim of the Breaking Boundaries conference series is to provide a forum for information exchange from internationally acclaimed academic and pharmaceutical entrepreneurs and business leaders on their experiences in the enterprise arena in the development of an enterprise research programme, company or project.

To achieve this objective a world-class group of academic and industrial researchers with a proven track record in developing spin-out companies were invited to share their knowledge with the Faculty.

The  first highly-successful conference, Breaking Boundaries (BB) II, was held in May 2007 with BBII following in 2010. The most recent conference, BBIII, was held in November 2011 and attracted more than 100 delegates.

Acclaimed Industrialist and Academic speakers gave presentations on their experiences in the enterprise arena and an insight into the development of their own research companies. These conferences have  been hugely successful and have played a key role in raising the profile of the Enterprise agenda and engagement across the University.

We are set to hold Breaking Boundaries IV in 2013.
