On the 8th Nov the Institute celebrated its 10th birthday with daytime science talks by junior and senior researchers, IDS building tours, posters, exhibitor stands and networking opportunities over lunch. The talks reflected on scientific achievements in developmental physiology, nutrition and metabolism, genomics, epigenomics and regenerative medicine, and mapped out the challenges for the next 10 years and the impact our research is making in partnership with our colleagues across the University and hospital.

We rounded off the 8th Nov celebrations with an evening 'Question Time' style event entitled ‘Building Superhumans?’. Members of the public and A level students from local colleges joined the audience for an entertaining and thought provoking discussion of the science behind what makes you healthy – with verve and humour, Prof Lord Robert Winston chaired the celebrity panel of Prof Neena Modi, Shelley Rudman, Jamie Raftery and Dr Adam Rutherford as they answered some great tricky questions from the A level students.
CHAIR AND PANELISTS - Prof Lord Robert Winston - scientist, politician and writer · Prof Neena Modi - medical researcher and president of The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health · Dr Adam Rutherford - science writer and broadcaster · Shelley Rudman - olympian and fitness trainer · Jamie Raftery - The Holistic Chef and healthier diet advocate.
