Marco R Venturini-Autieri
Marco obtained his Ph.D. as a result of a research, fully sponsored by BAE Systems, conducted at the Ship Science department. Now he is part of a Government-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership in London, to study the fluid-dynamics of an ice-blasting machine to clean historic masonry buildings.
"My choice of Southampton was casual: I did not know or expect much. Throughout the three years spent there, though, I found excellent reasons and pleasant surprises, both from the University and the town, which could have made my former choice a more reasoned one. The University shone with its offerings of services to the students, and the town looked as built around them.
I came from a hard five-year Engineering degree in Italy that had prepared thoroughly my theoretical background, but had left much unsaid regarding its practical application. The study at the University of Southampton definitely complemented my preparation."
