Dr Bart Baesens is Lecturer in Management within Southampton Business School at the University of Southampton.

I obtained both my MSc in Business Engineering and PhD in Applied Economics at the KU Leuven (Belgium) in 1998 and 2003, respectively.

I consider myself to be an applied researcher.

Throughout my research, I have acquired key qualifications in data mining, analytics, credit risk modelling, statistical modelling, computer programming as well as qualitative research methods. I have worked with leading researchers in my field, which has allowed me to acquire a thorough international experience and create a solid research network.

I have co-authored about 80 journal publications in top SCI rated journals. Amongst the journals my work was published in are, e.g., Management Science, Machine Learning, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, Data and Knowledge Engineering, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Forecasting, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, and Decision Support Systems.

I also edited special issues of the journals Expert Systems with Applications, Machine Learning, and IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. Furthermore, results of my research have been presented at various conferences which has resulted in about 80 conference publications and various best paper and best speaker awards. In November 2009, I have also co-authored a book “Credit Risk Management”, published by Oxford University Press. According to the Web of Science, my current h-index is 16, with a total number of citations equal to 1187.
