Qualifying as a charity fundraiser

Charity fundraisers often rely on relationships with others to succeed, therefore some companies will employ based on personality, so networking may be very important. Qualifications and experience also count for a lot.

Qualifications

  1. A degree is essential for most posts, but the subject is rarely specified.
  2. Recent graduates are rarely accepted without relevant experience.
  3. Fundraising training courses are available, though these may form part of your training once in employment.

Work experience

Experience can usually be gained through volunteering. The most common routes into Charity Fundraising are to volunteer as a fundraising assistant.

Work experience does not need to be long term, so don’t worry about moving round between lots of different charities.

Volunteering also allows you to gain experience of working in the not-for-profit sector and build up a network of contacts that can assist you when you are looking for full time work.
