1. You need to be a British Citizen to apply
2. A first or second class honours degree is essential, but any degree course is acceptable.
3. A language qualification is desirable to show aptitude for learning languages
   

Work experience

Most of the training required is given on the job, so work experience is not necessarily required. However the competition for posts can be heavy so research, an interest in foreign affairs and transferrable skills are very important.
