We provide courses and workshops, online resources and embedded faculty development support for staff teaching on the BM Undergraduate programmes. We offer training and support to enable you to teach effectively and enhance the student learning experience.
Our training opportunities are open to academic and clinical staff who teach Southampton medical students, including University and NHS staff and teachers in Jersey and Kassel, Germany.
Our courses cover the theory and practice of education in the context of undergraduate medical education, embedding key learning, teaching and assessment principles. We use an interactive and experiential approach, modelling the concept of a learning cycle that includes not only factual knowledge and theory but also experience and reflection. We focus on building an effective learning environment and each course is tailored to the particular needs of participants.
We have a number of general courses that are open to academic and clinical staff who teach Southampton undergraduate medical students, and some that are specific to teachers within Primary Care. Some general courses are also designed for specific staff groups – please see the “Who can apply?” section on the course pages.
MEDUSA is our online repository of resources for teachers on the BM programmes. It includes e-learning modules and other useful links and resources on topics such as teaching and learning, assessment and feedback, and student support.
We offer support with the design and delivery of curriculum-embedded staff development events, such as awaydays and workshops.
Please contact the Faculty Development team to discuss your group’s specific training needs.
