Clinical Genetics Research Group

The clinical genetics research group, formerly the Academic Unit of Genetic Medicine, Southampton (AcUGeMS) was established in 2007, to create a university research environment embedded in the Wessex Clinical Genetics NHS Service.

The group has a strong track record of multidisciplinary genetics research at the interface of clinical practice and basic science. The NHS/ University partnership in genetics results in research programs that are initiated by patient need, keeping them focused and relevant.

Membership of the academic group includes clinical academics and full time NHS staff involved in research through recruitment of patients, genetic epidemiology, clinical trials and basic science projects. AcUGeMS spans several research divisions within Medicine and maintains a close working relationship with the Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, housing the National Reference Laboratory, in Salisbury.
