Prestigious award for Faculty Professor

Prize given for outstanding contributions to the understanding of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML).

A researcher from the Faculty of Medicine has been given a prestigious award to celebrates his outstanding contributions to the understanding of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML).

Nick Cross, Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Southampton and Director of the Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, has been given the Rowley Prize by the International Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Foundation.

The award recognises Professor Cross’s scientific achievements to better understand the molecular pathogenesis of CML and the development, validation and standardisation of genetic tests.

“Janet Rowley was one of the great pioneers of leukaemia cytogenetics and I am deeply honoured to have been awarded the 2018 prize in her name”, said Professor Cross. “I am also very grateful to everyone who has worked in my lab over the years, and to the charity Bloodwise who has been our main source of funding.”
