Medicine modules praised for enhancing the student experience

Two medicine courses have been recognised in the University of Southampton’s Blackboard and VLE Awards, for enhancing the student experience.

The awards showcase modules or topics that consistently demonstrate good practice and some innovative approaches to delivering blended learning. Students nominate course sites themselves, that make a real difference to their learning, and are then judged by a guest panel, featuring representatives from SUSU, CHEP, the Associate Deans and iSolutions.

Both MEDI3044: Child Health and MEDI6114: Personal Professional Development received awards in this year’s ceremony.

The Child Health module was praised for its engagement with students on placement, its use of visual resources and the thought that has gone into creating online resources that goes well beyond the basics to help them get the most out of the module.

The Personal Professional Development module, which is a self-study module that aims to help students prepare for the transition to their first job in Foundation Year 1, was praised, for providing students an engaging and well-supported learning experience, while out on placement.

Karen Morrison, Associate Dean for Education, said: “Making sure that the Medicine curriculum is delivered in relevant and memorable ways is a key priority so I am particularly delighted that these two courses have been highlighted as an example of best practice of innovative learning.”
