Melting pot exhibition explores cultural traditions
How people explore culture is showcased in a new exhibition at the Tiffin Club restaurant in Oxford Street, Southampton this month.
Students from the University of Southampton's School of Art present 'Melting Pot - Art inspired by South Asia' from Thursday 27 March (private view) to Thursday 24 April.
The exhibition features photograpy and large-scale paintings from four Winchester School of Art students Saira Ahmed, Gulshan Hossain, Daisy Kirk and Jonathan Welton.
Saira's work is influenced by her experience of being born and brought up in Pakistan. By creating layers with texture and colour, Saira focuses on the integration of cultures and crossing of boundaries in relation to the issue of identity.
An ambassador for Bangladeshi art, Gulshan's paintings celebrate life and all of nature's wonders surrounding us.
Daisy's paintings reflect the wonder of exploring India, a new world of overpowering beauty. Her work celebrates the power, unity and purity of the culture and its people.
Jonathan's collection of photography is predominantly documentary in style, with each photograph providing a taste of Nepal in singular moments.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 27 March with a private view at 6.30pm.
