The University of Southampton has again secured its place in the top 20 of UK universities placing 16th overall in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

The position means Southampton is second in the South East region, with only the University of Oxford placed higher.

The success is further recognition that Southampton is one of the best universities in the UK, after also being placed in the top 15 of the Complete University Guide 2022 and 17th in the Guardian University Guide earlier this week.

Southampton President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith, said: “Placing 16th in the Good University Guide is a strong result consolidating around our rise of five places last year into the top 20. We are now top 20 across all major UK university guides and should be immensely proud of this remarkable achievement.

“Our consistent excellence in research, education and enterprise activities is only made possible by the efforts and dedication of colleagues across the University. My thanks goes out to each and every one of them as we approach the new academic year.”

The Guide is compiled using indicators focused on student satisfaction with teaching quality and the wider student experience, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, services and facilities spend, and degree completion rates with further consideration given to social inclusion.
