How to get involved

The call for contributors to SOTSEF 2021 is now open.

The Festival will run from Friday 5 to Sunday 14 March and you will be able to contribute with virtual activities and events.

All digital content will be hosted on the official website: www.sotsef.co.uk. The website will be configured to offer the same options as www.humanworldsfestival.com.

We welcome the following activities:

This year you will be also able to contribute digital content to International Day of Women and Girls in Science (Thu 11 February) and Care Day Special (Sun 21 February) as we are welcoming relevant virtual events and activities to be featured on the SOTSEF website in February in the runner up towards the festival.

Outline of the registration process

Submission for all activities and events is password protected, with a single stage process.

To make a submission, you will need to fill in the registration forms available at bit.ly/SOTSEF_Registration.

The information required, including ID and password, is detailed in the Useful Download section at the bottom of this page.

After each submission, you will receive a confirmation email with a summary of your input immediately on completion.

Key dates

Please note that there are firm deadlines for the registration process. These are set in order for us to deliver the best experience we can for both exhibitors and visitors and make sure that all requirements and expectations are met on our digital platforms.

SOTSEF 2021 Submission DEADLINE: Saturday 30 January 2021

SOTSEF 2021 Timetable goes live: Monday 8 February 2021

For researchers

If you are a researcher at the University of Southampton looking to showcase your project at SOTSEF 2021, please note that the internal call at the University of Southampton for contributors will open by mid December.

An 'Exhibitor Registration' call will be posted on SUSSED, Staff Matters, on the Public Engagement w/Research Community MS Teams channel and sent to the Public Engagement (PE) Network mailing list. These internal communications will contain information to submit your activity.

The call will also be announced on the PERu social media profiles, please just follow #SOTSEF.

If you wish to join the PE Network mailing list, please e-mail peru@southampton.ac.uk and include your Department and field of research if applicable.

For students

Students and student societies are more than welcome to submit relevant content to be included in the Festival programme.

Please note: due to the current edition of SOTSEF being entirely digital, it is highly unlikely that there will be opportunities in 2021 to be involved as a student ambassador.

In a normal year, students at the University of Southampton looking to volunteer alongside researchers or staff, or to be paid to work as a Student Ambassador would be asked to get in touch by sending an e-mail to festival@southampton.ac.uk from mid January or to check with their local Student Ambassador scheme.

For external exhibitors

This call is open to national and international collaborators of researchers at the University of Southampton, freelance artists, cultural venues, schools, trusts and community groups.

If you are an external exhibitor hoping to engage the public at SOTSEF, please e-mail us at festival@southampton.ac.uk to further discuss your ideas.
