As a signatory to the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) Manifesto for Public Engagement, the University is committed to sharing knowledge, power, resources and skills with the diverse publics and communities with which we engage, and to listening to and learning from expertise and insights to enhance relevant, accessible, mutually beneficial outcomes.
The Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu) exists to inspire, enable and support high quality public engagement with research across all disciplines at the University of Southampton.
Following guiding principles established with the unit's formalisation in 2016 we:
- facilitate networks and inform strategy to develop Southampton as an engaged University;
- support Public and Community Engagement Hubs across a range of themes;
- design and deliver Public Engagement Training;
- provide advice for research grant applications;
- provide Development Funding for Public and Community Engagement Projects;
- broker partnerships between researchers and publics;
- coordinate a spectrum of engagement opportunities for all career stages.
