Venue
After a highly successful 13th conference in Lyon in 2019, the conference will be returning home to the University of Southampton, UK, the venue for the first conference in the series in 1980. The conference will be held in the city centre, close to hotels, shops, parks, cafes, restaurants, and the Ocean Village marina and leisure complex.
Southampton and its environs
Southampton is a major port on the south coast of England and has a long maritime history. It has a museum partly devoted to the story of the Titanic which sailed from Southampton on its ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912. Close by is the beautiful ‘New Forest’ which, ironically, was first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086, and was a vital source of timber for the ship building industry in bygone years. The historic cities of Winchester and Salisbury, and the world heritage site Stonehenge are within easy reach by public transport.
