The WSI and the Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) jointly organised a hackathon event in Southampton around Large Language Models (LLMs), inviting PhD students and PDRA’s to attend from the University of Southampton’s School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) and Tsinghua University’s Department of Computer Science and Technology.

The five-day event led by Dr Stuart Middleton from the AIC Group in ECS, and by Dr
Yuxiao Dong and Professor Jie Tang from Tsinghua University, built on focused LLM prototyping based upon a set of hackathon themes with the aim of prototyping ideas that would lead to high quality collaborative paper submissions.

The event proved to be highly successful and gave participants the opportunity to work withing smaller groups to successfully prototype LLM ideas. The teams are now working together on experiments for paper submissions to the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics to be held in Bangkok, Thailand in August 2024.

The hackathon was organised by Dr Stuart Middleton form the AIC Group in ECS, and by Dr
Yuxiao Dong and Professor Jie Wang from Tsinghua University
