Can illness later in life be traced back to the mothers pregnancy?

Our research indicates that risk of chronic disease in later life (cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological) originates from conditions before birth. This legacy can even be traced back to around the time of conception. We will discuss how and why this may occur drawing on several animal models that collectively appear to mimic the situation in humans.
