Dr Mohamed Torbati, project supervisor and team member Mr Qasim Al-Mansoor, will attend the Northern European Engineering Impact Awards Ceremony on Monday 2 November at Prince Phillip House in London, where the results will be announced. A complete list of finalists can be found on the NI website.

As a result of the University’s Education Enhancement Fund, which provides funding to support innovative and creative projects with support from industrial partner Siemens, the team was able to manufacture a competitive railway locomotive and finished as the highest placed university team.

On Tuesday 3 November, Qasim will be joined by some of his team members to present the project to attendees of NIDays at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London.

In addition, the team also set a new record for the Energy Efficiency Challenge at the recent annual Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Railway Challenge. The project was shortlisted for the Faculty’s Design Show prize, with the project team leader, Mitchell Clark, being awarded the IMechE prize for the best Group Design Project project (GDP).
