Professor Parikka elected to Academia Europaea

Published: 30 June 2021

WSA Professor and AMT co-director Jussi Parikka has been elected as member of the prestigious Academia Europaea. The Pan-European academic organization selects members of international distinction based on a nomination and subsequent peer-review process. The primary criterion for membership is “sustained academic excellence in the candidate’s field”. Parikka was nominated for the Film, Media, and Visual Studies section.

The aim of the Academy is to promote European research, advise governments and international organisations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research. Founded in 1988, its members include 70 Nobel laureates and leading experts from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law.

Parikka is currently writing a new book on Operational Images and his co-edited volume Photography Off the Scale was just published in Spring 2021. He is also visiting professor at the Academy of Performing Arts, Prague.
