Opportunities to work for CHEP

We are currently recruiting to up to eight academic posts across the Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP), including evaluation practitioners and academic developers to support research. ​​​​​​​

These opportunities are all available at Level 4 or 5 as full-time roles, part-time and/or as part of a job share. 

 

Senior Teaching Fellow / Teaching Fellow in Academic Practice (Evaluation)

Full time; permanent

This is an exciting opportunity for a higher education evaluation practitioner with experience and an interest in the evaluation of education enhancement projects and activities.

The post-holder will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of evaluation processes for strategic major project activities offered by CHEP to support the realisation of the University of Southampton’s Strategy

The role is centered on professional development to support education activities both within CHEP and the institution. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the development of education staff at all stages of their career and to contribute to the wider Academic Practice remit of CHEP. You will join our friendly and supportive team and use your knowledge and expertise to help expand and enhance our institution-wide support for staff undertaking education activities.

Applicants will have:
A PhD/MA or equivalent professional qualifications

Experience in higher education

Detailed understanding and knowledge of evaluation approaches relevant to academic context

Experience of academic development and evaluation in higher education

A sound knowledge of the higher education sector in the UK

Detailed knowledge of data analysis techniques (either quantitative or qualitative or both) and ability to use related software are desirable criteria.

There is potential to recruit two candidates to this post, one on a permanent contract and one on a fixed-term contract in the first instance. Part-time work arrangements will be considered.

Academic Developer - Research focused

We are looking for an experienced researcher who can use their knowledge and expertise to help expand and enhance our institution-wide support for staff undertaking research activities.

The post-holder will contribute to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of professional development and strategic major project activities offered by CHEP to support the realisation of the University of Southampton’s Strategy (in particular, the People & Research strategies). 

In the first instance you will undertake operational leadership of certain aspects of the continuing professional development (CPD) provision relating to research activities. The role focuses on professional development to support research activities of staff at all stages of their career, however there will be opportunities to contribute to the wider Academic Practice remit of the Centre.

Applicants will have:
PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in higher education.

Detailed understanding and knowledge of the requirements of academic staff in relation to their research activities including the barriers that they face.

Post PhD research experience in the higher education sector

Proven experience and expertise in academic development in relation to researcher activities OR proven experience of designing and delivering high quality learning activities to staff or students with the potential to apply this experience and skills to academic staff development.  ​​​​​​​

Academic Developers - Postgraduate research focused

Full time; permanent

Applications are invited for five new academic development posts focused on supporting the professional development of postgraduate researchers, including their research, transferable and teaching/demonstrating skills.

The post-holders will contribute to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of professional development and strategic major project activities offered by CHEP to support the realisation of the University of Southampton’s Strategy (in particular, the People & Research strategies) as these relate to postgraduate researcher development and the work of the Doctoral College.

These roles focus on professional development to support doctoral researchers in their research and professional skills development at all stages of their studies, as well as their developing skills in teaching and learning. However, there may also be opportunities to contribute to other areas of CHEP’s work, including supporting staff engaged in research, knowledge exchange and enterprise, and education.

Applicants will have:
PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in higher education.

Detailed understanding of relevant research philosophies and methods appropriate to their field AND/OR Understanding of good teaching and learning practice and an awareness of relevant pedagogical literature.

Post PhD research and/or teaching experience in the higher education sector.

Proven experience and expertise in academic development in relation to postgraduate researcher activities OR

Proven experience of designing and delivering high quality learning activities to staff or students with the potential to apply this to apply this experience and skills to postgraduate researcher development.
