Diversity

How we support diversity

We believe equality and diversity are fundamental to making the University of Southampton a vibrant, proud and successful organisation. We not only want to be a fair employer; we want to create a creative yet caring environment for our students and staff to study and work in.

Diversity is supported in the University through a strong governance structure. The Vice Chancellor is the University's Diversity Champion and has appointed Nyovani Madise as the University's new Diversity Academic Lead. Nyovani has responsibility to take forward the University's equality and diversity agenda.

Delivery of our diversity objectives is driven by faculty Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committees, who include staff and student representatives of all levels.

The University has a Diversity Team responsible for responding to and implementing our equality and diversity commitments. However, overriding responsibility for equality and diversity lies with everybody in the University.
